Pentatonic Scales or ओडव राग are scales that consist of five notes in the raga structure - five ascending, five descending, usually the same set of notes both ways. One of the reasons why these scales are unique and widespread is that each combination provides a completely new set of melodies widely different from other ragas creating its own mood and hence a niche in the system of music.
Furthermore, these melodies also form a major contribution to making complex melodies using other structures, such as a Pentatonic ascension and Complete descension is a common typical format made using Pentatonic scales.
For the purposes of book-keeping, all the melodies in this and further pages are arranged alphabetically by the Hindustani equivalents. To be also noted that all the copyrights of the music used belong to its owners, and we have used it only for explaining the equivalences in the systems.
